The Initiative
The Belleau Wood Initiative is a long-term vision for community development through creativity, education, and civic engagement across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
At its core, the initiative seeks to invest in people. Through public art, storytelling, workforce development, educational partnerships, and community projects, we believe communities can create opportunities from within rather than waiting for them to arrive from somewhere else.
The goal is not simply to create murals, trails, festivals, or films. The goal is to strengthen civic pride, support local talent, beautify shared spaces, and help build communities where people are excited to live, learn, work, and raise their families.
By connecting artists, educators, students, businesses, tradespeople, and community leaders, the initiative aims to create projects that improve quality of life while contributing to long-term cultural and economic growth throughout the region.
Why It Matters
As educators, parents, artists, students, military families, and community members, we all have a stake in the future of our region.
Strong communities are built when people feel connected to the places they call home.
